The Ring vs. Life
Much learned in the ring can be applied to life in the world. Commitment, respect, dedication, perseverance, overcoming obstacles—all hold great significance. Though, we practice and fight in the ring as a method of non-violence in life, for there is one prime difference between the two planes: In the Ring, things are fair. You know who your partner is, you’re aware of what he knows, what his intentions are, and there are rules within the ropes. Life is not fair. There are no rules, and you do not know who your opponent is, what he knows, or whom he is with. Hence, violence on the street is dangerous and ALWAYS void of any favorable outcome. Pledge to fight ONLY in the case of extreme self-defense, when all other attempts at peace have been defeated. Do away with ego, and relate quietly and sympathetically to the anger or pain of your potential attacker. Release your controlled aggression in the ring and on the mat, in order that you exist more compassionately and humbly in life.
